CEC Transition Standards

Transition Standards (2013) (Download Transition Specialist Standards)

It has been more than ten years since the Transition Standards were updated.  In October, 2013, the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Board of Directors (BOD) approved the new, updated “Transition Standards” developed by the DCDT Validation Team led by Dr. Jane Razeghi (DCDT Executive Director); Dr. Mary Morningstar (DCDT Past President), Dr. Robert Morgan Utah State University; and Dr. Kendra  Williams-Diehm (DCDT Secretary).  Prior to the CEC Board approval, copies of the final draft were sent for validation to all DCDT members ; select additional members of CEC; and to the external partner members of Council for the Administrators of Special Education (CASE), National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center (NSTTAC), and the IDEA Partnership.  The CEC Professional Standards and Practices Committee (PSPC) approved the validated set of transition standards and officially presented them to the CEC BOD.

Typically, these standards have been used as guidelines for, among other things, job descriptions by state and local school systems, the basis for college and university personnel preparation programs, and turned into rubrics to access the knowledge and skills of transition specialists and teachers.
